Founded by American artist and philanthropist Jerome Hill (1905-1972), the Camargo Foundation fosters creativity, research, and experimentation through its international residency program for artists, scholars, and thinkers. Since 1971 Camargo has hosted nearly 1,000 individuals working in the arts and humanities from all over the world. Located in Cassis, France, on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, the Foundation offers time and space in a contemplative and supportive environment, giving residents the freedom to think, create, and connect.
The residencies are programmed either by the Foundation, as in the case of the Camargo Core Program, or in partnership. The residency programs vary in purpose (production, research, or experimentation), duration (a few weeks to several months), and selection process (open call or by invitation).

Please note that this year's call will be the last to take place through an open public call.
From July 2027, the Camargo Foundation will be experimenting with a new application system that will not rely on a public call. This change is the outcome of a long process of collective reflection involving people with a wide range of relationships to the Foundation.
This experiment seeks to broaden the range of perspectives represented within the Fellowship by fostering greater diversity in practices, perspectives, research topics, and creative approaches. It reflects the Foundation's commitment to sustaining and renewing its mission: supporting artistic creation and research in all their forms; fostering encounters across different ways of knowing; and providing artists, researchers, and thinkers with the time, space, and conditions needed for intellectually independent, rigorous, and emancipatory work. At a time when the conditions for creative practice, research, and freedom of expression are increasingly under pressure in many parts of the world, we believe this mission is more vital than ever.
If you would like to apply to the Camargo Fellowship for a residency in fall 2027 or in spring 2028, we encourage you to apply during the current application cycle.

The Camargo Fellowship is the flagship program of the Camargo Foundation. Since 1971, the Camargo Foundation has awarded residencies to more than 1,500 individuals as part of its mission to support groundbreaking research, experimentation, and interdisciplinary approaches in the Arts and Humanities.
Each year, an esteemed panel of scholars and arts professionals selects individuals or teams from hundreds of submissions from around the world. The laureates are awarded residencies in a stunning, contemplative environment where they have the space, time, and freedom to think, create, and connect. For this upcoming 2026-2027 edition, 14 applicants will be selected for a residency as part of the program. Fellowships will span over 10 weeks. With each cohort of Fellows, the Foundation strives to foster connections between research and creation.
